£3.2 million Levelling Up Fund to develop the Greenways Network

Ards & North Down Borough Council was successful in their bid for £3.2 million to develop the Greenways Network in the borough.

»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp overall network proposed is a 52km long loop connecting the borough’s five major towns and the Greater Belfast Area.

This project will focus on two parts:

  • creating a new greenway between Newtownards and Bangor
  • extending an existing greenway between Comber and Newtownards

»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp funding will support:

  • facilitating end-to-end green journeys which are not currently possible in the local area
  • creation and extension of safe, accessible cycling networks

Greenway benefits

»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp investment is expected to:

  • create safe new routes to education, retail, community links, parks and housing
  • improve access to employment opportunities
  • improve connectivity

»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp greenways will form an important part of the local council’s plans for achieving Net Zero and providing green forms of transport.
