Between 7 February and 6 May 2022, the government sought views on proposed changes to the legislative frameworks underpinning the international registration routes of the General Dental Council (GDC) and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
In response to the feedback received, we have laid before Parliament a draft Order which removes prescriptive detail from legislation and supports increased flexibility for the GDC and NMC. This is to ensure that the international registration processes of both regulators are proportionate and streamlined, while continuing to robustly protect patient safety.
皇冠体育appse changes are in line with the government鈥檚 approach to the broader reform of healthcare professional regulation which aims for a faster, fairer and more flexible model of regulation that minimises costs to registrants.

皇冠体育app Department of Health and Social Care, on behalf of the UK government and the devolved administrations, is seeking views on proposed changes to the General Dental Council (GDC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council鈥檚 (NMC) international registration legislation.
皇冠体育app aim is to provide these regulators with greater flexibility to amend their international registration processes by removing prescriptive detail about how such processes should operate from legislation.
皇冠体育app consultation also amends the GDC鈥檚 legislation to protect candidates whose opportunity to sit Part 2 of the Overseas Registration Exam (ORE) within 5 years of first attempting Part 1 (as required by GDC regulations) was lost as a result of restrictions on the operation of the exam resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
