皇冠体育app Future Aviation Security Solutions (FASS) programme aims to improve aviation security by funding and supporting the development of innovative science and technology.
皇冠体育app programme has 拢25.5 million in funding to invest over 5 years to provide new aviation security solutions, not just concepts, for the commercial market. 皇冠体育app programme will improve our ability to prevent terrorist attacks on aviation and have a positive impact on passengers鈥� experiences.
Who is involved in the FASS programme
皇冠体育app FASS programme is a joint initiative between the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Home Office. 皇冠体育app programme team works closely with other government agencies and across a wide range of stakeholders, from airports to universities.
Consultation with industry
皇冠体育app FASS programme team has sought the views of the aviation security sector and beyond. We have identified several areas of work that will enhance aviation security including:
- funding research and innovation 鈥� particularly the early stage development of new products
- helping with the testing and trialling of new equipment
- supporting communication and collaboration across the sector
Competitions to find solutions for aviation security challenges
皇冠体育app FASS programme team supports and encourages the development of innovative technology by seeking proposals to fund novel research, from anywhere in the world, via the Defence and Security Accelerator鈥檚 (DASA) open call for innovation .
FASS also holds themed competitions to find solutions to specific challenges. Working with DASA, the team has so far funded research into technologies for passenger, baggage and cargo screening, and also for solutions to the challenge of detecting explosives hidden in electrical items .
Research testing and trialling support
皇冠体育app FASS programme team works closely with research teams and end-users to improve the speed at which new technology is developed, refined and introduced to an airport. With the assistance of the Joint Security and Resilience Centre (JSaRC) the team helps to provide testing and trialling facilities and equipment for projects at all stages of product development.
