On 2 September Alistair Burt met representatives of the Libya/Northern Ireland Reconciliation Campaign. Almost a year after the Foreign Office established a unit to support the Campaign, the Minister and Campaign discussed progress to date and their planned next steps. Alistair Burt reiterated the Government鈥檚 commitment to supporting their efforts.

Following the meeting, Mr Burt said: 鈥溁使谔逵齛pp Government continues to support the campaign鈥檚 goals. Acknowledging and addressing the suffering of victims is an essential part of Libya鈥檚 full re-engagement with the world. Libya鈥檚 relations with the international community have been fundamentally transformed in recent years and we have a common interest in moving forward. 皇冠体育app Campaign offers an opportunity to deal with the difficult legacy of the past in the right way.鈥�

皇冠体育app Reconciliation Campaign, led by Jason McCue, is a private campaign, which is seeking redress on behalf of 154 victims and their families for suffering caused by Libyan-supported IRA terrorist attacks. 皇冠体育app Campaign engages directly with the Libyan Government. On 8 September 2009, a unit was established in the Foreign Office to provide advice, as well as logistical and facilitation assistance. 皇冠体育app Campaign has access to wider cross-Whitehall expertise and Ministers continue to raise the Campaign鈥檚 concerns at the highest level with the Libyan Government.
