Civil Service named one of the most gay-friendly workplaces

10 government departments feature in Stonewall鈥檚 Workplace Equality Index 2014.

For 10 years running, Stonewall鈥檚 Index has helped transform over 800 workplaces across Britain and is hailed as one of the definitive benchmarks for gay-friendly employers. Today, participation in Stonewall鈥檚 Index sends a powerful signal of an organisation鈥檚 commitment to its most vital resource, its people.

皇冠体育app Civil Service is proud of its strong relationship with Stonewall and individual departments use their Workplace Equality Index to benchmark against best practice. Stonewall also runs workshops that share good practice among civil servants whose work involves the promotion and monitoring of diversity.

皇冠体育app chief executive of Stonewall, Ben Summerskill, described the competition for a place on this year鈥檚 list as never being fiercer. 皇冠体育app Civil Service runs a number of groups to provide support and advice to staff and help to implement best practice. 皇冠体育app Civil Service Rainbow Alliance is the cross government network for lesbian, gay and bisexual colleagues and individual departments operate their own groups.

Diversity in the Civil Service brings in the best people and developing talent irrespective of background, so helps to modernise the organisation.
