Culture Secretary sees top women鈥檚 sportsteam in action
Maria Miller sees Arsenal Ladies defeat German champions Potsdam.

saw the in action at Meadow Park, Borehamwood, where she was hosted by Arsenal Ladies鈥� General Manager Vic Akers and FA representatives.
Mrs Miller watched the Gunners鈥� , the Frauen Bundesliga Champions.聽 She was given some background on the Ladies鈥� setup and history, while taking in what was a first ever victory over German opposition for the women鈥檚 side, in addition to meeting England Women鈥檚 National Coach Hope Powell.
Last week, , when football鈥檚 governing body unveiled a new five-year plan for the women鈥檚 game.
Vic Akers explained: 鈥溁使谔逵齛pp Arsenal Ladies have come a long way since the team was founded back in 1985, and it was encouraging to hear Maria Miller鈥檚 enthusiasm for continuing to develop the sport.鈥�
Speaking after the match, Mrs Miller said:
鈥淚t was fantastic to see the Arsenal women鈥檚 team get a victory against Potsdam, and I hope that they can complete the job over in Germany in the second leg. It was also inspiring to see the high level of attendance at the game - and that broadcasters covered the match.鈥�
She added 鈥淰ic Akers and England coach Hope Powell gave me great insight into how the women鈥檚 game has developed in recent years, and this is something that I want to see continue. Promoting women鈥檚 sport is vital and raising the levels of participation amongst girls and women is something the Government is committed to achieving.鈥�
