Ahead of the service, the Deputy Prime Minister said:

Today we remember Stephen Lawrence, his legacy and his loving parents鈥� fight for justice. Our greatest tribute to Stephen and his family is to stand together, in solidarity, against all forms of racism, prejudice and hate. Much has been achieved in the last twenty years 鈥� but every day we must strive to do better.
