In response to the published by the International Development Committee in the UK Parliament today, International Development Minister Lynne Featherstone said:

鈥淚鈥檓 delighted that the International Development Committee has shone a spotlight on the urgent problems faced by people with disabilities in developing countries. For too long, people with disabilities have been treated as an after-thought even though they are often the poorest people and lack access to basic services. But on a visit to Uganda last year, I saw first-hand what a difference just a wheelchair and an accessible toilet can make on a disabled child鈥檚 schooling.

鈥淚鈥檓 determined to increase our focus on disability within DFID, and I鈥檓 encouraged by the recommendations the Committee has made. We will consider the Committee鈥檚 report in detail in making sure DFID leaves no one behind.鈥�
