Edward Davey statement on Npower price increase
Edward Davey, Secretary of State for Energy, responds to Npower's announcement regarding the rise of their energy tariffs
Energy and Climate Change Secretary Edward Davey said:
鈥淭his is another disappointing announcement from a big energy company. Some of the Big 6 seem not to have noticed that they are no longer alone in the market 鈥� there are now fifteen small suppliers, and some really competitive fixed deals out there.
鈥淭oday I鈥檓 publishing hard figures on the costs energy companies really face in delivering the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), so consumers can see what this scheme is really costing energy companies.
鈥溁使谔逵齛ppse figures 鈥� supplied by the energy companies themselves 鈥� show that the costs are in line with previous schemes so there should be no need for any increase to consumer bills due to ECO.鈥�

Today DECC has published hard figures on the cost of delivering ECO, based on information from the companies themselves. 皇冠体育appse figures show that the costs of ECO so far are very much in line with the Government鈥檚 own estimates of around 拢1.3 billion per year.

On these estimates, the cost to households should be around 拢47 on average this year 鈥� broadly in line with the costs of previous schemes.

This means there should be no need for any increase to consumer bills.
