Engaging with the Burmese Government
Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne met with Burmese Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency U Kyaw Myo Htut on 6 February.
It was the first time that Mr U Kyaw Myo Htut had called on a British Government minister.
Following their meeting Mr Browne said:
鈥淢y meeting with Mr U Kyaw Myo Htut is a mark of the UK鈥檚 willingness to engage with the Burmese government in light of the reforms that they have recently undertaken. I encouraged the Ambassador and his government to maintain the momentum for change. I reiterated that the UK government stood ready to respond to future positive actions, and that the world would be watching the upcoming by-elections, expecting them to be free and fair.鈥�
