Foreign Office Minister welcomes British MP observing Fiji election

Hugo Swire welcomes the appointment of Meg Munn MP to the Multinational Observer Group observing Fiji鈥檚 election in September.

皇冠体育app UK branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association has selected Meg Munn MP, a former Foreign Office Minister for the Pacific region and former Chair of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, to represent the UK on the Multinational Observer Group (MOG). 皇冠体育app MOG will observe Fiji鈥檚 parliamentary election on 17 September 2014. Fiji has been without an elected parliament since a military coup in 2006.

Foreign Office Minister Hugo Swire said:

I welcome the selection of Meg Munn MP by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to be the UK鈥檚 lead member of the Multinational Observer Group, which will observe Fiji鈥檚 parliamentary election on 17 September. Her experience as a former Minister for the region will be invaluable in this important role.

A credible observer group witnessing the election is vital to ensure the result is a true reflection of the will of the Fijian people.
