Launch of New Climate Economy report in Chile

On Monday 17 November, public, private, academic and civil society actors came together to attend a presentation of the 鈥渂etter growth, better climate: the new economy鈥� report by Chile鈥檚 former President Ricardo Lagos. 皇冠体育app event, organised by ECLAC and supported by the British, Norwegian and Swedish embassies in Chile, emphasised the report鈥檚 conclusions regarding how tackling climate change can go hand in hand with emerging economies.

Alicia B谩rcena, Executive Secretary at ECLAC, opened the programme by discussing that enhancing economic growth and addressing climate change globally not only will depend on 鈥渆xports but on internal investments.鈥� Ricardo Lagos followed by highlighting that a movement towards a growing low carbon economy in Chile will depend on 鈥渉ow we stimulate innovation.鈥�

Local private sector representatives Ren茅 Muga, Executive Director of the Association of Power Generating Companies and Jos茅 Olimpio, Volvo Group, also expressed their views on the commitments as well as challenges the private sector is currently experiencing in both adapting more sustainable practices and ensuring profitability.

皇冠体育app New Climate report was published by the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate which is supported by the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia and South Korea. 皇冠体育app UK played a significant role in the reports development as Lord Nicholas Stern chaired the economic advisory panel.
