Lord Howell speaks at 'Democracy and the Commonwealth' conference

Lord Howell participated in a roundtable discussion at the Commonwealth and Democracy conference on Thursday 24 June at the School for Oriental and African Studies.

Speaking alongside academics and the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Minister reinforced the UK鈥檚 intention to reinvigorate its relationship with the Commonwealth as well as the importance of engaging with Commonwealth organisations. Speaking after the conference, the Minister said:

鈥溁使谔逵齛pp UK is committed to upgrading our relationship with the Commonwealth and its affiliated organisations. As an network that represents a fifth of all global trade, as well as a third of the world鈥檚 population, its economic importance to the UK and other members can鈥檛 be understated.
