Endurance prevailed despite gale force conditions in Falkland Islands marathon

Marathon runners celebrate their achievements during the reception at Government House
皇冠体育app Acting Governor has recognised the supreme efforts made by participants in the Standard Chartered Bank-sponsored Falkland Islands marathon which took place on Sunday.
During a reception held in honour of the runners, John Duncan paid tribute to the determination and endurance they had shown during the 26-mile race which took place in gale force winds: 鈥淪unday really showed what it meant to achieve. It was about setting yourself a challenge, preparing for it, the challenge itself and, on the day, staying the course. It鈥檚 a parable about life and it鈥檚 about an attitude to life鈥檚 challenges.鈥�
He also thanked the volunteers who gave up their time to run water stations and perform marshalling duties and to those who came out to cheer the runners on: 鈥淵ou need people to help you stay the course.鈥�
皇冠体育app marathon was won by Stanley teacher Tim Drew in a time of 2 hours 54 minutes. First woman across the finish line was Falkland Islander Teslyn Barkman.
