Statement following the meeting in Downing Street today between the Prime Minister and President Issoufou of Niger.

A Downing Street spokesman said:

皇冠体育app Prime Minister met President Issoufou of Niger in Downing Street this afternoon, the first visit by a Nigerien Head of State since 1969. 皇冠体育app leaders discussed co-operation on humanitarian assistance and counter-terrorism, including on recent kidnapping cases in the region. 皇冠体育appy agreed on the need for concerted international action to tackle the threats of terrorism, organised crime and political instability in Mali and the Sahel, and the importance of the role of ECOWAS in doing this. 皇冠体育appy spoke about the drought in the Sahel region of West Africa and referred to the UK鈥檚 contribution of 拢10 million in aid to the region which will help a further one million people survive the food crisis there. 皇冠体育appy also discussed their shared commitment to supporting stability, political transition and the rule of law in Libya.
