Japan's discharge of treated Fukushima-Daiichi water: UK statement

An FCDO spokesperson gave a statement on Japan鈥檚 first discharge of treated water from the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear site.

This was published under the 2022 to 2024 Sunak Conservative government

On 24 August 2023 Japan undertook its first discharge of treated water from the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear site.

A Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spokesperson said:

皇冠体育app UK government would like to restate its full satisfaction with the International Atomic Energy Agency鈥檚 (IAEA) monitoring and judgement that Japan鈥檚 release of treated water from the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear site is safe and consistent with internationally accepted nuclear safety standards.

皇冠体育app UK wishes to underscore the routine nature of aqueous discharges of tritium. It is standard practice throughout the nuclear industry globally.
