UK to play leading role in remembering the Holocaust internationally

Foreign Secretary marks Holocaust Memorial Day with a commitment to remember and to learn its lessons.

27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day, a world-wide day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust. 皇冠体育app theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2014 is 鈥楯ourneys鈥�. Foreign Secretary William Hague said:

Today, as we remember the victims and survivors of Holocaust Memorial Day, our thoughts are with the families of all those who perished. 皇冠体育app lessons of that terrible time must never be forgotten, for today and the future.

Today we remember in particular the uprooting and herding of families across Europe; the separation of children from their families on 皇冠体育app Kindertransport; the death marches and those few brave escapes.

We commit ourselves to commemorate and to combat the hatred which allowed such heinous crimes to take place, and to do our utmost to prevent them from ever happening again.

This year the UK takes on the Chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. We are proud to work closely in this endeavour with the UK鈥檚 vibrant and internationally renowned academic and NGO community.
