Biography

Stephen Tetlow MBE was appointed as a Non-executive Director of DVLA in February 2024.

Education

Stephen is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a chartered engineer. He has a BSc in Engineering from »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp City University London, an MSc in Design of Information Systems from Cranfield University, has an Open University MBA and an Hon Doctorate in Engineering from Plymouth University.

Career

Stephen started his career as an apprentice with Smiths Industries Ltd and went on to become Director of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering for the British Army and Director of Operations for the Defence Logistics Organisation in the Ministry of Defence. On leaving Defence he was appointed Chief Executive of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency during which time he led the computerisation of the award-winning national MoT system, working closely with DVLA to enable online vehicle licensing.

He was then appointed CEO of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and its group of companies, which he led for 10 years. He has more than 15 yearsâ€� experience as a Non-Executive director, including Engineering UK and the National Skills Academy for Rail. He is a Non-Executive Director of »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp Student Loans Company Ltd and a Non-Executive Director of the DVLA.
