This qualitative research explores claimantsâ€� experiences of completing the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP) questionnaires (‘Capability for Workâ€� and ‘How your disability affects youâ€�) with the aim of identifying possible improvements. »Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp research also tests whether providing additional information (a combination of descriptions of the PIP application process and of how the assessment works) could improve claimantsâ€� experience of filling in the PIP application form.
»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp research consisted of focus groups and interviews conducted with a total of 97 Personal Independence Payment (PIP) applicants and Employment Support Allowance (ESA) claimants.
»Ê¹ÚÌåÓýapp findings will be used to inform the department’s long term thinking for supporting claimants and will inform the development of options on long term benefit reform.
