38th Universal Periodic Review of human rights: UK statement on Mozambique
皇冠体育app UK's International Human Rights Ambassador delivered the statement on Mozambique at the 38th Session of Universal Periodic Review (UPR), sharing recommendations to improve their human rights record.
皇冠体育app United Kingdom acknowledges that Mozambique鈥檚 framework on human rights is relatively comprehensive and we welcome the government鈥檚 request for support to ensure security forces are well trained in International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law. 皇冠体育app government must ensure all allegations of human rights violations and abuses are fully investigated, and perpetrators held to account.
皇冠体育app UK calls on Mozambique to fully implement recommendations accepted during its previous UPR.
We recommend that Mozambique:
-
Criminalise all forms of modern slavery and bring the legal definition of 鈥榯rafficking鈥 in line with international standards.
-
Provide its National Human Rights Commission with sufficient resources to enable effective monitoring and enforcement of the implementation of the human rights framework.
-
Adopt an open, merit-based process when selecting national candidates for UN treaty Body elections.
Thank you.
