Passenger journey figures are based on data collected from a panel survey of the largest bus operators and are seasonally adjusted. 皇冠体育app bus fares index is compiled from data provided by a representative sample of operators.

In the year to June 2013:

  • an estimated 4.60 billion bus passenger journeys were made in England, around 51 million fewer than during the previous year.
  • this 1.1% decrease in bus use across England is due to a 2.3% decrease in use outside London whilst use in London has remained broadly constant (0.1% increase).

Comparing April to June 2013 with April to June 2012:

  • there was a 0.3% increase in bus passenger journeys in England with a 1.3% increase in London offset by a 1.2% decrease in non-metropolitan areas and a 0.7% decrease in metropolitan areas.
  • bus passenger journeys decreased by 1.8% in Scotland and increased by 0.1% in Wales over the same period.

Comparing April to June 2013 with the previous quarter:

  • there was a 0.9% increase in seasonally adjusted bus passenger journeys in England. Quarter on quarter changes should be interpreted with caution, however.

Comparing June 2013 with June 2012 from the bus fares index:

  • there was an increase in bus fares of 3.9% in England (4.6% in London, 2.4% in metropolitan areas and 4.2% in non-metropolitan areas). 皇冠体育app all items retail prices index increased by 3.3% over this period.
  • over the same period there was an increase of 3.5% in fares in Scotland, and an increase of 2.8% in Wales
