Passenger journey figures are based on data collected from a panel survey of the largest bus operators and are seasonally adjusted. 皇冠体育app bus fares index is compiled from data provided by a representative sample of operators.

In the year to September 2013:

• an estimated 4.61 billion bus passenger journeys were made in England, around 45 million fewer than during the previous year
• this 1.0% decrease in bus use across England is due to a 1.7% decrease in use outside London whilst use in London has remained broadly constant (0.2% decrease)

Comparing July to September 2013 with July to September 2012:

• there was a 0.2% increase in bus passenger journeys in England with a 0.4% increase in London and a 0.9% increase in non-metropolitan areas offset by a 1.0% decrease in metropolitan areas.
• bus passenger journeys decreased by 0.5% in Scotland and increased by 0.4% in Wales over the same period.

Comparing July to September Q3 2013 with the previous quarter:

• there was a 0.4% increase in seasonally adjusted bus passenger journeys in England. Quarter on quarter changes should be interpreted with caution, however.

Comparing September 2013 with September 2012 from the bus fares index:

• there was an increase in bus fares of 4.2% in England (4.7% in London, 3.4% in metropolitan areas and 4.3% in non-metropolitan areas). 皇冠体育app all items retail prices index increased by 3.2% over this period.
• over the same period there was an increase of 3.5% in fares in Scotland, and an increase of 2.9% in Wales.
