Regional trade in goods summary

This commentary reports the UK鈥檚 regional trade in goods statistics by broad area (EU and non-EU), Country and . Users must refer to the explanatory notes聽 accompanying this commentary, covering data sources and compilation methodology. Aggregated data can be found in our accompanying tables
Please note that trade in goods values are reported in current prices. Figures are not adjusted for inflation or seasonality, so please take caution when making comparisons with historic data.
In the year ending June 2024, the overall value of UK trade in goods聽decreased by 6.7% for聽exports聽and by 8.2% for聽imports, when聽compared with the previous year.聽At a regional level:
- all UK countries experienced a decrease in the value of exports, except for Northern Ireland which increased
- all UK countries experienced a decrease in the value of imports
- export values for the North East, East Midlands, and West Midlands increased while all other English regions experienced decreases
- import values decreased for all English regions
England鈥檚 trade in goods
In the year ending June 2024, compared with the year ending June 2023:
England鈥檚 goods exports to EU countries were worth 拢125 billion (down 拢9.7 billion, 7.2%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU exports was in SITC 33 - Petroleum, petroleum products & related materials (down 拢3.2 billion,聽25%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU exports was to the Netherlands (down 拢4.9 billion, 21%).
England鈥檚 goods exports to non-EU countries were worth 拢136 billion (down 拢2.6 billion, 1.9%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU exports was聽in SITC 68 - Non-ferrous metals (down聽拢1.5 billion, 18%). 皇冠体育app largest聽decrease in non-EU exports was to China (down聽拢0.6 billion, 5.5%).
In the year ending June 2024, the largest English export region was the South East, accounting for 11% of the UK鈥檚 total goods exports, whilst the smallest was the North East, accounting for 3.9%.
England鈥檚 goods imports from EU countries were worth 拢242 billion (down 拢1.8 billion, 0.7%).聽皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU imports聽was in SITC 54 - Medicinal & pharmaceutical products (down 拢2.3 billion, 17%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU imports was from the Netherlands (down 拢5.8 billion, 13%).
England鈥檚 goods imports from non-EU countries were worth 拢191 billion (down 拢35.6 billion, 16%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU imports was in SITC 34 - Gas, natural & manufactured (down 拢18.2 billion,聽68%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU imports聽was from the USA (down 拢8.7 billion, 18%).
In the year ending June 2024, the largest English import region was the South East, accounting for 19% of the UK鈥檚 total goods imports, whilst the smallest was the North East, accounting for 2.7%.

Wales鈥� trade in goods
In the year ending June 2024, compared with the year ending June 2023:
Wales鈥� goods exports to EU countries were worth 拢10.9 billion (down 拢0.9 billion, 8.0%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU exports was in SITC 33 - Petroleum, petroleum products & related materials (down 拢0.7 billion, 32%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU exports was to Ireland (down 拢0.6 billion, 21%).
Wales鈥� goods exports to non-EU countries were worth 拢7.7 billion (down 拢0.9 billion, 10%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU exports was聽in SITC 33 - Petroleum, petroleum products & related materials (down 拢0.6 billion, 37%). 皇冠体育app largest聽decrease in non-EU exports was to the USA (down 拢0.7 billion, 20%).
Wales鈥� goods imports from EU countries were worth 拢7.5 billion (down 拢0.7 billion, 8.1%).聽皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU imports聽was in SITC 68 - Non-ferrous metals (down 拢0.2 billion, 45%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU imports was from Ireland (down 拢0.2 billion, 37%).
Wales鈥� goods imports from non-EU countries were worth 拢13.7 billion (down 拢1.7 billion, 11%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU imports was in SITC 33 - Petroleum, petroleum products & related materials (down 拢1.0 billion,聽15%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU imports聽was from Norway (down 拢0.4 billion, 44%).

Scotland鈥檚 trade in goods
In the year ending June 2024, compared with the year ending June 2023:
Scotland鈥檚 goods exports to EU countries were worth 拢17.9 billion (down 拢3.9 billion, 18%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU exports was in SITC 33 - Petroleum, petroleum products & related materials (down 拢1.6 billion,聽17%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU exports was to Ireland (down 拢1.7 billion, 46%).
Scotland鈥檚 goods exports to non-EU countries were worth 拢14.0 billion (down 拢0.9 billion, 6.1%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU exports was聽in SITC 11 - Beverages (down 拢0.6 billion, 16%). 皇冠体育app largest聽decrease in non-EU exports was to China聽(down聽拢0.2 billion, 18%).
Scotland鈥檚 goods imports from EU countries were worth 拢11.9 billion (down 拢0.1 billion, 1.0%).聽皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU imports聽was in SITC 75 - Office machines & adp machines (down 拢0.2 billion, 17%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU imports was from the Netherlands (down 拢0.3 billion, 13%).
Scotland鈥檚 goods imports from non-EU countries were worth 拢15.9 billion (down 拢7.2 billion, 31%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU imports was in SITC 34 - Gas, natural & manufactured (down 拢5.8 billion,聽63%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU imports聽was from Norway (down 拢4.9 billion, 55%).

Northern Ireland鈥檚 trade in goods
In the year ending June 2024, compared with the year ending June 2023:
Northern Ireland鈥檚 goods exports to EU countries were worth 拢6.8 billion (a small value increase, up 0.5%). 皇冠体育app largest increase in EU exports was in SITC 66 - Non-metallic mineral manufactures n.e.s. (up 拢0.1 billion, 34%). 皇冠体育app largest increase in EU exports was to Ireland (a small value increase, up 1.1%).
Northern Ireland鈥檚 goods exports to non-EU countries were worth 拢4.3 billion (up 拢0.7 billion, 19%). 皇冠体育app largest increase in non-EU exports was聽in SITC 54 - Medicinal & pharmaceutical products (up 拢0.5 billion, doubling in value). 皇冠体育app largest聽increase in non-EU exports was to the USA聽(up聽拢0.7 billion, 57%).
Northern Ireland鈥檚 goods imports from EU countries were worth 拢6.6 billion (down 拢0.2 billion, 2.7%).聽皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU imports聽was in SITC 02 - Dairy products & birds鈥� eggs (down 拢0.1 billion, 26%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in EU imports was from Ireland (down 拢0.1 billion, 2.9%).
Northern Ireland鈥檚 goods imports from non-EU countries were worth 拢3.0 billion (down 拢0.2 billion, 7.6%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU imports was in SITC 32 - Coal, coke & briquettes (down 拢0.1 billion,聽55%). 皇冠体育app largest decrease in non-EU imports聽was from Colombia (down 拢0.1 billion, 55%).
